Product overview
Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu is India's best-known pump cluster, alongside Ahmedabad and Rajkot in Gujarat and several large manufacturers in Maharashtra and Kolkata. A segment export figure was not available in our research.
Indian makers export agricultural and domestic pumps (monoblock, jet, self-priming, borewell submersibles in 3, 4, 6 and 8 inch), building-services pumps (end-suction, inline, pressure boosting) and solar pumping systems, with motors from 0.5 to 100 HP.
Africa, the Middle East, South and South-East Asia and Latin America are the core markets. Efficiency regulations (EU ecodesign for water pumps and motors) and conformity schemes (CE, SASO, PVoC, SONCAP) decide market access.
HS note: Pumps with integral motor are still 8413.70 when centrifugal; spare parts 8413.91; standalone motors 8501.

ASSUMPTION
Market requirements by region
European Union
CE marking (Machinery, LVD, EMC); clean-water pumps must meet ecodesign minimum efficiency (Reg. (EU) 547/2012) and motors IE3 (Reg. (EU) 2019/1781) (ASSUMPTION - not re-checked). India lost EU GSP preferences for 2026-2028 (Implementing Reg. (EU) 2025/1909), so MFN duty applies; the EU-India FTA concluded on 27 Jan 2026 is not yet in force.
Gulf (GCC)
Saudi Arabia: regulated products need a SASO Product Certificate of Conformity plus a per-shipment Shipment Certificate issued through SABER; goods without the SCoC are refused. Electrical pumps and motors may also need SASO energy-efficiency compliance.
Southeast Asia
Agricultural and domestic pump demand in Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines; national safety marks may apply.
Africa
Large irrigation and borewell market; Kenya: most regulated goods need a PVoC Certificate of Conformity from a KEBS-appointed inspection agency before shipment. Nigeria: regulated goods need a SONCAP Product Certificate and per-shipment SONCAP Certificate (needed to process Form M).
