Product overview
India's cable industry runs from large listed manufacturers to mid-size plants, with clusters in Haridwar-Roorkee, Silvassa/Dadra, Halol-Vadodara, Bhiwadi and Pune (from our research). Several Indian cable makers now export significant volumes, particularly to the Middle East, Africa, Australia and the US. A segment export figure was not available.
Products include 0.6/1 kV PVC- and XLPE-insulated power cables (unarmoured and SWA/AWA), 450/750 V building wires, flexible cords, control and instrumentation cables, solar DC cables (EN 50618 / IEC 62930), and fire-performance FR-LSH/LSZH cables.
Market access depends on third-party approvals (BASEC, UL, SASO, KEMA/TÜV type tests), plus construction-product classification for cables in EU buildings.
HS note: Conductors fitted with connectors ≤ 1,000 V are 8544.42; > 1,000 V cables 8544.60; winding wire 8544.11; optical fibre cables 8544.70.

Market requirements by region
European Union
Cables for permanent installation in buildings need CE marking under the Construction Products Regulation (Euroclass fire rating, notified-body involvement for higher classes) plus LVD/RoHS (ASSUMPTION on details). India lost EU GSP preferences for 2026-2028 (Implementing Reg. (EU) 2025/1909), so MFN duty applies; the EU-India FTA concluded on 27 Jan 2026 is not yet in force.
United States & Canada
US market needs UL listing (e.g. UL 44/83/4703 for PV wire). Copper conductor cables may be affected by Section 232 copper derivative rules - check HTS. US duty on Indian goods as of 22 Oct 2026 (per our compliance research, secondary legal analysis): MFN rate plus a 10% Section 301 tariff in force since 24 Jul 2026; Section 232 goods (steel, aluminium, copper, autos/parts) pay the 232 rate instead. Re-verify before quoting landed cost.
Gulf (GCC)
Saudi Arabia: regulated products need a SASO Product Certificate of Conformity plus a per-shipment Shipment Certificate issued through SABER; goods without the SCoC are refused. Cables are a regulated product in Saudi Arabia; UAE projects often ask for third-party approvals.
Africa
Kenya: most regulated goods need a PVoC Certificate of Conformity from a KEBS-appointed inspection agency before shipment. Nigeria: regulated goods need a SONCAP Product Certificate and per-shipment SONCAP Certificate (needed to process Form M).
Australia & New Zealand
Australia requires compliance with AS/NZS cable standards and the electrical safety scheme (RCM/EESS); India-Australia ECTA (in force 29 Dec 2022) gives zero duty on most tariff lines with a preferential certificate of origin.
General guidance, not legal advice. Confirm current requirements with your customs broker or the regulator.

Frequently asked questions
PVC or XLPE insulation?
XLPE has a higher operating temperature (90 °C vs 70 °C) and better electrical properties, so it carries more current for the same size.
Do you supply LSZH cables?
Yes. Low-smoke, zero-halogen cables for tunnels, hospitals and public buildings.
What approvals are available?
Depending on the plant: BASEC, UL, SASO, KEMA/TÜV type tests, and CE/UKCA declarations.
How are cables packed?
Power cables on ISPM-15 wooden drums; building wire in 100 m coils.
Do copper prices affect quotes?
Yes. Cable prices usually follow LME copper/aluminium, and quotes are valid for short periods or include metal-price adjustment clauses.
