Product overview
India is the world's largest mango producer, but fresh exports are small relative to output because of short shelf life and strict quarantine rules. A FY2024-25 export value was not found in tier 1-4 sources; trade press estimates about US$ 56 million of fresh mango in CY2025 (tier 5, not verified). Leading destinations named in press are the UAE, the UK, the USA, Kuwait and Qatar.
The flagship export varieties are Alphonso (Hapus) from Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg/Devgad in Maharashtra (Alphonso GI), Kesar from Gir-Junagadh in Gujarat (Gir Kesar GI), Banganapalli from Andhra Pradesh and Dasheri from Malihabad near Lucknow. The season runs roughly April to June.
Market access varies: the USA requires irradiation (APHIS pre-clearance at approved Indian facilities), Australia, Japan and others require vapour heat or hot-water treatment, and the EU requires a phytosanitary certificate with fruit-fly freedom. Gulf markets are the largest and least restrictive.
HS note: Mango pulp and slices are under 2008 99; dried mango under 0804 50 / 0813.

Market requirements by region
United States & Canada
USA: mangoes require irradiation at an APHIS-approved facility in India under the pre-clearance programme (APHIS permit and PPQ 203); Canada and others have their own treatment rules.
United Kingdom
UK: the India-UK CETA entered into force on 15 July 2026 (reported) - claim preference with proof of origin; higher-risk food needs IPAFFS pre-notification. UK diaspora demand for Alphonso and Kesar is strong; consignments need phytosanitary certification free of fruit fly.
Gulf (GCC)
UAE: Dubai Municipality FIRS requires the importer to register the company and each food item (label assessment) before arrival; Arabic/English labelling per GSO 9; India-UAE CEPA preference with a CEPA certificate of origin. The UAE, Kuwait and Qatar are the largest fresh-mango markets (tier-5 press); most volume flies or ships in the April-June window.
Australia & New Zealand
Australia: check the DAFF BICON case for this commodity (permit, treatment, inspection) and FSANZ labelling/country-of-origin rules; imported food is inspected under the Imported Food Inspection Scheme. Australia and New Zealand require approved treatments (e.g. irradiation/VHT) under BICON/MPI import health standards.
