Product overview
Rajasthan dominates Indian marble: Makrana (Nagaur) is famous for the white marble of the Taj Mahal and holds a GI (per research, not re-verified); Rajsamand-Udaipur produces white and the well-known green marbles; and Kishangarh (Ajmer) is the biggest processing and trading market. Ambaji in Gujarat and Katni in Madhya Pradesh are other notable sources. Exports are reported with all natural stone (about US$1.2 bn, tier-7 estimate).
India also imports large volumes of foreign marble. Export opportunity is in distinctive Indian varieties (especially green marble), handicraft and inlay work, and competitively priced white marbles for the Gulf, South Asia and Africa.
Marble is softer and more porous than granite, so buyers specify resin treatment, netting and sealing alongside size and finish.
HS note: Polished or further-worked marble is 6802.91; blocks 2515.11/2515.12.

Frequently asked questions
Is Makrana marble still available?
Yes, though quality blocks are limited and expensive. Makrana holds a GI tag.
Why is marble resined and netted?
Some varieties have natural fissures. Epoxy resin and mesh backing strengthen slabs for cutting and transport.
Marble or granite for kitchens?
Granite resists acids and scratches better. Marble etches with acidic foods and needs sealing.
Can you supply inlay work?
Yes. Pietra dura inlay tables, panels and decor are made by Agra and Rajasthan artisans.
How do I check colour consistency?
Ask for slab-by-slab photographs, and reserve a full lot from the same block.
