Product overview
India is one of the largest granite exporters. Andhra Pradesh (Ongole-Chimakurthy for Black Galaxy), Telangana (Karimnagar for Tan Brown), Tamil Nadu (Krishnagiri, Hosur, Madurai), Karnataka and Rajasthan (Jalore) are the main sources. A tier-7 aggregator puts worked granite exports at about US$750 mn in FY2024-25 (verify with CAPEXIL).
Products range from blocks (mostly to China) to polished slabs for countertops and flooring, cut-to-size tiles, kitchen tops, paving and memorial stones.
Buyers specify the variety, finish (polished, honed, flamed, leathered), thickness and slab size, and inspect slabs or photographs before loading. Consistency of colour across a lot is the key commercial issue.
HS note: Polished or further-worked granite is 6802.93; blocks and roughly trimmed granite 2516.11/2516.12.

Market requirements by region
European Union
Natural stone used as a construction product carries CE marking under harmonised EN standards (ASSUMPTION on per-product applicability); Poland and Germany buy Indian granite. India lost EU GSP preferences for 2026-2028 (Implementing Reg. (EU) 2025/1909), so MFN duty applies; the EU-India FTA concluded on 27 Jan 2026 is not yet in force.
United States & Canada
The USA is the largest natural-stone market for India (tier-7 data). US duty on Indian goods as of 22 Oct 2026 (per our compliance research, secondary legal analysis): MFN rate plus a 10% Section 301 tariff in force since 24 Jul 2026; Section 232 goods (steel, aluminium, copper, autos/parts) pay the 232 rate instead. Re-verify before quoting landed cost.
United Kingdom
Large memorial and kitchen-worktop market; UK-India CETA has been in force since 15 Jul 2026; claim preference with a CETA proof of origin (DCTS proofs are not interchangeable).
Gulf (GCC)
Construction demand in Saudi Arabia and the UAE; Saudi SASO conformity may be needed for building materials.
Australia & New Zealand
Australia banned engineered stone from 1 July 2024; natural granite is not covered by that ban (ASSUMPTION - confirm with Safe Work Australia). India-Australia ECTA (in force 29 Dec 2022) gives zero duty on most tariff lines with a preferential certificate of origin.
