Product overview
India is the largest producer of jute goods. Most mills sit along the Hooghly in West Bengal (Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, North 24 Parganas). Jute manufactures exports were about US$384 mn in FY2024-25 (DGCI&S); JPDEPC data shows shopping bags and other diversified products as the largest sub-group.
There are two businesses. Traditional sacking and hessian are used for packing food grains, coffee, cocoa and sugar. Diversified products cover shopping and tote bags, wine bags, gift pouches, juco (jute-cotton) bags and decorative fabrics.
Retailers and promotional buyers in Europe, the UK, the US and Australia buy jute bags as a plastic-free alternative. Food-grade sacks for cocoa and coffee must be batched with vegetable oil rather than mineral oil.
HS note: Jute shopping/tote bags are usually 4202.22 (handbags with outer surface of textile); hessian fabric 5310; jute yarn 5307; jute floor coverings 5702/5705.

Market requirements by region
European Union
Plastic-bag restrictions support demand for reusable jute bags; buyers ask for azo-free dyes and food-contact compliance where relevant. India lost EU GSP preferences for 2026-2028 (Implementing Reg. (EU) 2025/1909), so MFN duty applies; the EU-India FTA concluded on 27 Jan 2026 is not yet in force.
United States & Canada
Promotional and grocery tote market. US duty on Indian goods as of 22 Oct 2026 (per our compliance research, secondary legal analysis): MFN rate plus a 10% Section 301 tariff in force since 24 Jul 2026; Section 232 goods (steel, aluminium, copper, autos/parts) pay the 232 rate instead. Re-verify before quoting landed cost.
United Kingdom
UK-India CETA has been in force since 15 Jul 2026; claim preference with a CETA proof of origin (DCTS proofs are not interchangeable).
Africa
Food-grade sacks for cocoa (Ghana, Côte d'Ivoire) and coffee producers; Indian sacks compete with Bangladesh.

Can you print our logo?
Yes, with screen printing in 1-4 colours, or digital printing for detailed artwork.
