Product overview
India makes stainless-steel kitchenware for its huge domestic market and exports to retailers, ethnic grocers and e-commerce brands worldwide. Main clusters are Wazirpur in Delhi, Jagadhri-Yamunanagar in Haryana, Mumbai-Vasai and Rajkot. A segment export figure was not available in our research.
Products include mixing bowls, colanders, stock pots and tri-ply cookware, tiffin/lunch boxes, thalis and dinner sets, tumblers, insulated bottles, canisters and serveware.
Steel grade decides quality and compliance. 304 (18/8) is standard for food contact in Western markets; lower-nickel 201/202 grades are cheaper but can fail metal-migration and corrosion tests.
HS note: Cutlery is 8211/8215; cooking appliances 8516; copper/brass kitchenware 7418.

Market requirements by region
European Union
Food-contact articles must comply with Reg. (EC) 1935/2004; buyers test metal release against Council of Europe guidance. Stainless household articles are not CBAM goods (ASSUMPTION - CBAM covers iron/steel lines listed in Annex I). India lost EU GSP preferences for 2026-2028 (Implementing Reg. (EU) 2025/1909), so MFN duty applies; the EU-India FTA concluded on 27 Jan 2026 is not yet in force.
United States & Canada
USA: steel, aluminium and copper articles and listed derivatives pay Section 232 tariffs (copper semis 50% since 1 Aug 2025; an April 2026 proclamation modified how the metal 232 tariffs apply) - check whether the HTS line is on the derivative list before quoting. Non-232 lines pay MFN + 10% Section 301 (as of Oct 2026).
United Kingdom
UK-India CETA has been in force since 15 Jul 2026; claim preference with a CETA proof of origin (DCTS proofs are not interchangeable).
Gulf (GCC)
Large ethnic and catering demand; India-UAE CEPA (in force 1 May 2022) gives preferential duty against a CEPA certificate of origin.

Frequently asked questions
304 or 201 stainless steel?
304 (18/8) has more nickel and chromium, so it resists corrosion better and is the norm for food contact in Western markets. 201 is cheaper but higher in manganese.
Do you test for metal migration?
Yes. Migration tests for nickel, chromium and manganese can be done at accredited labs per buyer requirements.
Is the cookware induction-compatible?
Items with a magnetic (430) base or tri-ply construction are. Plain 304 bowls are not.
Can you laser-engrave our brand?
Yes, on most items, with branded packaging.
Are US steel tariffs relevant?
Possibly. Check whether the HTS line is on the Section 232 steel-derivative list before quoting.
