Product overview
India is one of the largest coriander producers, led by Madhya Pradesh (485,562 t), Gujarat (176,168 t) and Rajasthan (87,450 t), per Spices Board. Exports were US$ 74.84 million in FY2024-25; India consumes most of its crop domestically, and Russia, Ukraine, Morocco and Bulgaria are competing origins in world trade.
Indian coriander is traded in colour and size grades - Eagle (bold, greenish), Scooter (medium) and Badami (brownish, lower grade) - and as whole seed, splits (dal) and powder. Ramganj Mandi in Kota district is the largest coriander market.
The crop is harvested in February-April. Buyers in Malaysia, the UAE, the UK and Sri Lanka are traditional destinations for whole seed and powder.
HS note: Crushed, split or ground coriander is 0909 22.

Market requirements by region
European Union
EU: ethylene oxide is effectively not permitted (MRL 0.1 mg/kg sum for spices) and Spices Board runs mandatory EtO testing for EU/UK-bound spice consignments; pesticide MRLs under Reg. 396/2005 are the main rejection cause - test against the EU Pesticides Database before shipping.
United Kingdom
UK: extra control measures have applied to Indian spice imports since May 2024 after the EtO episode; the India-UK CETA (in force 15 July 2026, reported) gives tariff preference with proof of origin.
Gulf (GCC)
UAE: Dubai Municipality FIRS requires the importer to register the company and each food item (label assessment) before arrival; Arabic/English labelling per GSO 9; India-UAE CEPA preference with a CEPA certificate of origin. UAE and Saudi Arabia buy whole and powder for retail and re-export.
Southeast Asia
Malaysia and Singapore are traditional buyers for curry-powder grinding; halal-retail packs in Malaysia need JAKIM-recognised certification.
