As of 2026-11: finished LED lamps, luminaires, LED modules and LED control gear (drivers) are under BIS's Compulsory Registration Scheme — each model and factory needs CRS registration before import. Bare LED packages/chips are not, to our knowledge, covered. Pre-packaged retail lamps must also carry Legal Metrology declarations. Do LED drivers need BIS registration for import into India?
Yes. LED control gear and finished LED lamps, luminaires and modules are under BIS's Compulsory Registration Scheme; each model must be registered for the specific factory before it is shipped.
Do bare SMD LEDs need BIS registration?
Bare LED packages are not, to our knowledge, on the CRS list, which covers finished products and control gear. Confirm against the current list on crsbis.in.
What HS code applies to LED chips?
Light-emitting diodes are classified under HS 8541.41; LED drivers usually under 8504.40 and finished lamps under 8539.52.
What test data should I ask an LED supplier for?
LM-80 lumen-maintenance data, bin certificates for flux, CCT and voltage, and for drivers, efficiency, power factor, THD and surge-test reports.
Can LED drivers be supplied under our brand?
Yes, but a finished driver sold under your brand needs CRS registration in that brand's name for the manufacturing factory.
